Injury Update - Rip Curl Pro Bells

Last updated March 18, 2016 by Surf-Stats

There are still quite a few injury changes for the Bells event, with some major confirmations already flowing through from WSL:

Sponsor Wildcard – ?

Trials Wildcard – ?

Jack Freestone – confirmed

Jack Freestone has withdrawn from the Bells contest with an undisclosed injury. Dusty Payne has been added to the draw as his injury replacement.

Filipe Toledo – confirmed

Filipe has pulled his groin (let’s just leave that there) and withdrawn from both the Bells and Margaret River events. We’re hoping to see him back to 100% by the 4th tour event in Brazil. Mason Ho has been announced as a replacement surfer.

Owen Wright – confirmed

After a serious head injury that cost him his place in the Pipe event and, ultimately, his shot at a maiden title, Owen has confirmed that he will sit out the start of the 2016 season to continue his rehab. It’s a massive blow for the talented goofy-footer, especially after his lengthy absence in 2013 due to back injury. Adam Melling announced as his replacement until at least the JBay contest.

Bede Durbidge – confirmed

After shattering his pelvis (that hurts us just to TYPE), Bede still has a way to go before he will be ready to compete again. Bede has confirmed that he is out for Bells, but is yet to confirm if he will be commentating OR coaching JJF. Bede will be replaced by the rampaging Stuart Kennedy.

Alejo Muniz – confirmed

After pulling out of the QuikPro, Alejo has again withdrawn from the Bells event due to an ongoing knee injury. Sebastian Zietz is his replacement. He has already been added to the draw.
