Injury Update - Margaret River Pro
Last updated April 5, 2016 by Surf-Stats
Things have been moving around on the injury front, here’s the latest as of April 7th:
Invitation Wildcard – Jack Robinson
Fans of Jack Robinson will be stoked to hear that the West-Australian charger has been offered a spot in the Margaret River event. If the conditions are right for the Box or even North Point, seriously consider putting JRob on your team.
Trials Wildcard – ?
Mick Fanning – confirmed
With a 3rd at Bells, Fanning is reasonably placed to requalify through select events as intended. The last we heard was that Mick would be out until J-Bay. If the waves are pumping in the south pacific though, he always has the option of slotting straight back in…
Mick will be replaced by Dusty Payne
Filipe Toledo – confirmed
Filipe withdrew from both the Bells and Margaret River events immediately after his QuikPro injury. We’re hoping to see him back to 100% by the 4th tour event in Brazil.
Sebastian Zietz has been announced as a replacement surfer.
Owen Wright – confirmed
After a serious head injury that cost him his place in the Pipe event and, ultimately, his shot at a maiden title, Owen has confirmed that he will sit out the start of the 2016 season to continue his rehab. It’s a massive blow for the talented goofy-footer, especially after his lengthy absence in 2013 due to back injury.
Adam Melling has been announced as his replacement until at least the JBay contest.
Bede Durbidge – confirmed
After shattering his pelvis, Bede still has a way to go before he will be ready to compete again. He has confirmed that he is out for Margies and that he’ll be replaced by Stuart Kennedy.
Jack Freestone – confirmed out
Jack missed Bells due to an injury suffered immediately after being knocked out of the Gold Coast event. He originally entered the Margaret River event, but succumbed to his injury today, paving the way for WQS leader and Italian Stallion Leonardo Fioravanti.
Alejo Muniz – competing
After pulling out of the QuikPro and Bells event due to an ongoing knee injury, Alejo returns to the tour as the 31st seed.
