A Farewell to Surf-Stats
Dear Surf-Stats Readers, I want to say thank you for all your help in growing Surf-Stats into what it's become. This last year has been a wonderful journey, one which has proven the desire for more within the surf community. I founded Surf-Stats on the belief that fans have been dissatisfied with the availability of statistics and historic reference in this space. The goal was to forge a new path in the growing world of sports data, hoping that surfers and fantasy surf players alike would support the movement -... Read more

The Fantasy Wash Up: Post Pipeline Recap
I’ve hesitated to write this article for a couple of days. Part of the delay had to do with the craziness of this time of year, but motivation was also lacking due to my disappointment at Mick’s loss. As a writer/commentator I try to limit my biases (except towards the 8 surfers on my fantasy team), and I pride myself on celebrating good surfing regardless of its source. That’s why my growing favouritism for Mick (who wasn’t even on my fantasy team) took me by surprise. Read more

#Vai...Jamie?
Round 3 of the 2015 Billabong Pipe Masters could be underway as early as tomorrow morning. The World Title contenders will all paddle out to either continue their quest or pack their bags as each will face a do-or-die elimination Heat. None of these Heats of consequence, however, will be more analyzed, monitored or anticipated than R3H5: Jamie O'Brien vs. Mick Fanning. As deep and layered as the continental shelf it will be decided above, this matchup is pulsing with history. Title scenarios loom over Fanning... Read more

2015 Pipe Masters - R2 Update
Update: 13 December Live Projection for the Pipe Masters following R2:[table id=190 /] As the drama is defers, it compounds; this anticipation can't be good for my heart. There's no shortage of potential discussion following the 2015 Pipe Masters' Act II, a Round that taught every CT invasive a lesson in elimination. Jamie O'Brien and Mason Ho avoided this massacre following their R1 Heat wins and are the only two INJ Replacement/Wildcards remaining. As for the CT elite, ... Read more

2015 Pipe Masters - R1 Update
R1 is over, but no one's season has ended yet. The losers have all been reseeded into R2 and that's where we'll see some drama. So far, our picks are doing great and our Gut Instincts Team looks like it could go all the way: Obviously we need Jack Robinson to pick up the slack, but if R1 were 1.5 seconds longer he would have scored his way into R3. Here's all... Read more

The Other Guys - Cutoff Scenarios
There is no shortage of drama and action heading into this year's Billabong Pipe Masters. They'll be naming the Wildcards prior to the event on opening day, there's roughly 7 million World Title scenarios that can unfold, we're still stoked over the Pe'ahi Challenge ...oh, and someone will be crowned the 2015 Pipe Masters Champion. There's no need for any further analysis of the Title scenarios, Google will autocomplete your search query and you can digress ad nauseam. Each of the six athletes vying for the... Read more

2015 Pipe Masters Fantasy Outlook
Updates (10 December, 2015) Owen Wright's injury and status are still unknown. The latest suggests it could be water in the lungs - not something of a long-term worry, but would definitely impact his participation in the Pipe Masters. We'll keep an eye on it at our Injury Hub, but since we didn't suggest him for your team anyway, this only makes for a stronger argument. We wish Owen a speedy recovery whatever the case may be, and hope he is well enough to surf. Should... Read more
