The Other Guys - Cutoff Scenarios

There is no shortage of drama and action heading into this year's Billabong Pipe Masters.  They'll be naming the Wildcards prior to the event on opening day,  there's roughly 7 million World Title scenarios that can unfold,  we're still stoked over the Pe'ahi Challenge ...oh,  and someone will be crowned the 2015 Pipe Masters Champion. There's no need for any further analysis of the Title scenarios,  Google will autocomplete your search query and you can digress ad nauseam.  Each of the six athletes vying for the... Read more

2015 Pipe Masters Fantasy Outlook

Updates (10 December,  2015) Owen Wright's injury and status are still unknown.  The latest suggests it could be water in the lungs - not something of a long-term worry,  but would definitely impact his participation in the Pipe Masters.  We'll keep an eye on it at our Injury Hub,  but since we didn't suggest him for your team anyway,  this only makes for a stronger argument.  We wish Owen a speedy recovery whatever the case may be,  and hope he is well enough to surf.  Should... The Fantasy Wash-Up – Billabong Pipe Masters Analysis

Even to a non-surfer,  Pipeline has an aura about it.  You don’t have to know about World Title races,  Triple Crowns or the WSL to appreciate the spectacle that Pipeline/Backdoor provides.  During the past 25 years,  this writer would have had no issue getting psyched for each and every Pipe event.  The first Pipe that I remember seeing was Tom Carroll and that snap at the ’91 event.  As a goofy-footer grom,  TC was my hero for years after that event.  The few times he snaked... J-Bay Open Returns in 2016

Settle down,  settle down.  The 2016 CT will return to Jeffreys Bay,  South Africa,  following the Final-heard-round-the-world between Mick Fanning,  Julian Wilson and a juvenile Great White shark.  Before we jump down the WSL's collective throat about "marketing/profit over athlete safety,"  let's take a quick step back and analyze this universe. Jeffreys Bay has been a part of professional surfing since Marc Occhilupo won its inaugural event in 1984;  between J-Bay and Durban,  a total of 43 contests have been held since 1976.  South Africa is...
