Notes From The Line-Up - Nate Yeomans

Ok, so we're a little bit late on this one. The contest window has officially started, however because the horn hasn't sounded on Round 1 yet there is still time to make some last second changes to your fantasy teams. For this episode of Notes From The Line-Up we are lucky enough to have caught up with local So-Cal ripper and former WCT competitor Nate Yeomans. Nate is an extremely talented surfer with a fighters spirit, as featured on this recent WSL blog post. He has seen... Read more

Special Update - John John Florence

A frenzy of speculation ensued today after the WSL released this clip: [embed]https://twitter.com/wsl/status/773300421456691200[/embed] After earlier reports of JJF playing down his post-Tahiti injury, this news comes as a last minute concern to many, including the fantasy surfing community, many of which are backing him to win the event. And for good reason. The current world number one goes into the Trestles event with a fresh yellow jersey, an AHS second only to Mick, and some enviable form (he has been in 3 out of the last 4 finals). His star... Contest Analysis - Hurley Pro Trestles 2016

We’re a bit pressed for time on this article - given that we just got back from interstate – so this will be a pretty ‘lite’ version of the usual overview: Conditions Trestles gets called a playground, a skate park for surfers, a high performance wave and plenty more. What you can expect going by the break itself and the forecast is fun, 3-5’ rights and (shorter) lefts with plenty of blank-canvas walls for expression, flair and the rare barrel. As far as a history of success goes, we’ve... Read more

Trestles Hurley Pro Sortable Data

Sorry for the delay, ladies and gents; the S-S crew were chasing some remote Western Australian waves for the past 10 days... Below you will find a selection of sortable data to manipulate while selecting your Lowers team. This data takes the 2014/2015/2016 results into consideration and give a slight weighting to 2016 form within the projections. Many of the less experienced surfers (less reliable data) have skewed projections due to their averages being heavily influenced by this season's results and having no previous experience at this event. Don't just... Read more

Contest Wash-Up – Billabong Pro Tahiti 2016

The King Returns Ok gang, I’m sure you’re all aware of what went down in Tahiti over the last few days. I’m sure you’ve probably also read an article or two or three, and seen news clips, and watched the entire replay, and been bombarded by instagram and twitter etc., etc., etc. So I’m going to keep this fairly brief: It was an epic contest, finally giving fans what they want by running smoothly from start to finish - in the first half of the waiting period - with... Contest Analysis - Tahiti Pro 2016

We just want to dedicate this piece to the life and legacy of the legend that was Midget Farrelly, the first champion of Australian professional surfing (and so much more). Who doesn’t love a Tahiti contest? And with Medina and John John breathing down Wilko’s yellow-jersey’d neck, it’s got the makings of a great event. Except for the predicted… Conditions I could talk about big Teahupo’o, and playful Teahupo’o, and all the ways in which it can impact team selections, but in truth the forecast... Read more

Notes From the Line-Up - Tahiti

We are so stoked to have Hira Teriinatoofa as our guest for the Tahiti version of Notes From the Line-Up. He is such a humble and modest guy, it's easy to forget that he charges Teahupo'o on days when few others would consider leaving the channel. A former quarterfinalist at this event, we thought Hira a perfect go-to guy when seeking some locals-only information for stop 7 of the 2016 WSL tour. We must have known something, as he managed to qualify for the main event as a wildcard after... Read more

Special Feature - an interview with The Badger

We run through the numbers every contest. We make our projections. We post teams. We hope like everyone else that our 8 selections won't crash and burn. The thing is, we don't seem to be winning much. I mean, we do OK; we're ranked in the top 25% of all teams overall in the WSL game and our Fantasy Surfer team is beating Groundswell, but that's hardly going to impress readers. What we need on this site is some sort of connection with success. We need to align ourselves with... Read more
