Injury & Wildcard Updates - Bells 2017

Last updated April 10, 2017 by Balyn McDonald

Here’s the latest regarding the upcoming Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach:

Italo Ferreira – OUT

Italo’s ankle injury saw him sit out Margaret River contest, and the reports at the time claimed that he would miss Bells. Our info is that he has gone back to Brazil to receive rehab and is aiming to return for the Rio contest.

Nat Young – IN as injury replacement

Nat was decent value at Margies, and looks good again for Bells. Italo’s loss is Nat’s gain.

Local wildcard – Glyndyn Ringrose

Glyndyn is an ex-tour surfer (1999/2000) who has all-but-retired from the competitive arena. He may not be as sprightly as the younger guys, but he rips and he knows the break very well.

Trials Winner – Sam Pupo

QS hopeful and Miguel’s 16y.o. sibling Samuel Pupo edged out Margies wildcard Jacob Wilcox in the trials final to take a coveted spot in the main draw.

Heat Draw

They main draw is still unchanged, but the pdf has the wildcards like this:

Malia Manuel

Has also withdrawn from the women’s event due to injury. She will be replaced by Isabella Nicholas.
