Injury Update - Tahiti Pro

Last updated August 17, 2016 by Dave

Here is the wildcard and injury replacement info for the WSL Mens Billabong Tahiti Pro 2016 (19-30th August)

Tahiti Draw

Owen Wright & Bede Durbidge – OUT

Both still out for another event, and still being replaced by Stu Kennedy and Sebastien Zietz.

In case you haven’t heard Owen has officially declared the 2016 season as injury recovery time, and we look forward to his return in 2017. Bede on the other hand has thrown his hat in the ring for the forthcoming Vans Triple Crown in Hawaii at the end of this year. Read his statement via WSL here.

Mick Fanning – OUT

Mick took to the J-Bay stage like a true champion and stole the show. With his campaign to requalify for the 2017 season looking almost guaranteed, Mick is going to skip Chopes and possibly show up at Trestles next month. If you’re interested in what he’s doing with his spare time you can check this video of him and Mason Ho chilling out.

Bruno Santos – IN

Bruno is no fly-by-night wildcard. You’ve seen him here at Teahupo’o many times before. In 2008 he won the event as a wildcard. Last year he made it to round 5, defeating eventual world champ Adriano de Souza along the way. And now he’s back, the 2016 trials winner in challenging conditions and a very real threat to any WCT competitor.

Hira Teriinatoofa – IN

Hira is the 2016 event wildcard. He is the highest placed Tahitian in the trials, and knows the Teahupo’o tube like it was his own backyard. In 2004 he made it all the way to the quarter finals. We also had the pleasure of interviewing Hira for our Notes From The Line Up article, where the goofy footer dropped some local knowledge on us. Check it out now!
